Apr 26, 2023Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Protects Your Device
Installation of Microsoft Defender on university-owned devices is an additional step in a series of actions that have been taken to help protect our campuses from cybercriminal activity. Microsoft Defender protects against software threats like viruses, malware, and spyware to help keep both personal files and university systems safe.
Microsoft Defender for Endpoint has replaced McAfee Endpoint Security as the new security platform for university owned devices. Microsoft Defender for Endpoint identifies software vulnerabilities, provides antivirus and anti-phishing protection, and detects threats in a single, unified platform. The platform integrates with Microsoft 365 services such as Outlook, SharePoint and OneDrive, offering robust security. One of the major capabilities of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is the detection and response functionality which continuously protects computers from malicious activity.
Microsoft Defender for Endpoint comes preinstalled on Windows computers and is available for university-owned servers and workstations including Linux and macOS. If you do not have Microsoft Defender installed on your computer, please reach out to the Service Desk.
